Day 1 – Travel to Sorrento, Private Tour of Pompeii and Naples Archeological Museum, Overnight in Sorrento

The tour highlights today include a private tour of Pompeii, Sorrento and one of the most important archeological museums in Italy. Your driver guide from Rome will take you to charming Sorrento, perched on a bluff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. But first, you’ll stop in Naples for a private guided tour of the National Archeological Museum’s extensive collections of Greek and Roman antiquities, particularly artifacts from Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum. The building itself that houses the museum is an architectural and historical gem, built in the 17th century.

Next you will arrive at the lost city of Pompeii. Thirty feet of hot mud and volcanic ash buried this Roman city completely when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. Your expert guide will show you villas, baths, storefronts, houses, pizza parlors, forum and other artifacts from this once-prosperous city, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Finally, you'll reach elegant Sorrento. Your tour guide will take you through the piazzas and narrow streets filled with tempting shops and tasty restaurants overlooking the rugged seaside cliffs.  You may also visit a fragrant lemon and orange grove, where you can sample and purchase limoncello, a local lemon liqueur, among other products.

Day 2 – Day in Capri with your Private Tour Guide

Today you will enjoy a private tour of the picturesque island of Capri via a hydrofoil ferry from Naples. A popular resort since Roman times, the beautiful island of Capri is a joy to explore on foot. As you explore the gorgeous island of Capri with your private tour guide, you may visit historic sites like Villa Jovis (Tiberius Villa), Villa San Michele (a grand mansion), Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso and Charterhouse of San Giacomo, which was a Carthusian monastery.
Your private tour of Capri will also take you to Anacapri, the island's other main settlement, From its main square, Piazza Vittoria, you can take a chair lift up to Monte Solaro, the island's highest point, where you can have an incredible view of the island and visit the ruins of a castle. Another interesting sight on Anacapri is Villa San Michele. The former home of Swedish writer and healer Axel Munthe, this villa features lush gardens and a house full of Roman treasures.
You’ll also have time to make some one-of-a-kind purchases in Capri’s world-class shops, and take in the breathtaking views from fun outdoor cafes, before taking the ferry back to Naples and back to Sorrento.

Day 3 – Private Airport transfer to Rome, Tour of Mt. Vesuvius

Optional: Private transfer to the train station or the airport in Naples instead of touring on Day 3.

Today you will have a guided tour of Mt. Vesuvius. The journey begins with the slow trip up the windy road up the hill until the parking lot to the crater. You must leave the car behind here and take a 30-minute hike of moderate difficulty to the top, which reaches nearly 4,200 feet. The views and fresh air here are well worth the effort.
At the end of our journey, we will transfer you to your hotel in Rome, or else provide a private transfer to the Naples airport.
